Initial Ideas

We are thinking of basing our film on the seven deadly sins. We are planning on doing a psychological thriller. We are hoping to tell the story of a girl whos friends/ classmates have all been killed in horrible ways, and she works out why, and tells her counsellor. But there is a twist at the end. Our film has lots of action and twists to keep you on your feet and interested. Emily and Rosie

Analysis

Today we viewed extracts from two films, "Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix" and "Misdirection", we were told to take into account the methods of filming and editing used in each extract and to apply it to our own work.
The Harry Potter sequence provided me with some interesting ideas that I can potentially use in my coursework for example; the tracking shots and hand held camera effect, these gave the feel of realism and would definitely be something that I would like to recreate in my own work.
The way that the opening sequence was shot, with a wide angle lense to show a lot of the back ground, emphasised how isolated Harry is and our coursework, which essentailly focuses on one persons isolation from the world, could benefit from using similar effects. The dream sequence is shown with different music and contrasted shots. This gives the effect of a dream.

"Misdirection" was slightly more experimental through shots and editing, so this gave us a better understanding of what sort of techniques our piece will need. Emily

Shots

We started our film with the psychologist walking down a long corridor with an establishing shot. We did this to establish the character and the scene. This will then led to the match on action to Emily's face with an extreme close up. This provides an intimacy with her character and the audience and shows that these two characters will be linked. The camera then flicks back to the psychologist walking round the corner then another shot of the psychologist opening the door. We did this to break up the walking down the corridor to make it more interesting and build the tension. We had another match on action to Emily's face turning in an eye line match when she hears me by the door. This creates suspense and further shows the audience these two characters will be directly linked with each other. The next shot is a close up of the door being opened then a long shot of the psychologist walking through the door. This further creates suspense as the audience is waiting on tender hooks for the door to open and find out what it is all about. The psychologist sits down and we used a shot, reverse shot for the conversation. The final shot is an over the shoulder shot of Emily talking. We wanted to keep these shots simple but still interesting so the audience could focus on the conversation. Emily and Rosie

Hi.
This is our first blog. We are called E.R (Emily, Rosie) PRODUCTIONS and we created a project called "What's The Problem?" about a girl who goes to see the school psychologist.

Our brief stated that we had to have a person opening the door, a short conversation, an eye-line match, match-on-action, 180 degree rule and shot, reverse shot.

We all learnt a lot about the equipment and computer software as none of us had ever used it before.

These blogs will document everyones views on the project, what we felt worked and didn't, what we liked and disliked etc.
